NOTE: we recommend you make a test file with only 5 questions as a sample to try out the process before formatting a larger set of questions.

Your content must include ONLY the question and answer text. It must NOT include any titles, headers, page numbers, or extra spaces.

3. Save the file as a .txt file (Text file format) using UTF-8 encoding.

2. Create a Question Bank category

  1. Click the Question Bank link in your Administration block on the left side of your course page.
  2. Click the Categories link that appears below it.

  3. Type a name for your new category.

  4. Click the "Add category" button.

3. Import your questions

  1. Click the "Question Bank" link in your Administration block on the left side of your course page
  2. Click the "Import" link that appears below it.

  3. Select Aiken as the import type.

  4. Select the category you created form the category menu.
  5. Uncheck the get category info from file option, since you are telling Moodle where to put your questions.

  6. Select the file you want to import.
  7. Click the "Import" button.

  8. A results page will display telling you how many questions imported. If errors are listed you may need to correct any formatting issues and try again.

  9. Click the "Continue" button.
  10. View the list of your questions in the Question Bank page that displays.

  11. You can then edit the name, content, and other options of your questions by clicking the "edit" (gear) icon.
